Ecoscrapbook Earth Day Blog Hop

*****Sorry this is late****  My scheduler is not working!!!!

Hi, Everyone!  Welcome from Renee's blog.  I'm Mariah and I've been scrapbooking for about 9 years now.  I have three wild boys.  I'm a teacher and avid photographer.  I'm so pleased to participate in Ecoscrapbook's Earth Day Blog Hop.  In case you get lost along the way, you can go back to Ecoscrapbook here to find your way.

Today, I want to share with you my project, and some of the ways my family and I try to be more Earth Conscious.  If you've been here before, then you know that I mentioned how I HATE to have extra photos laying around.  It is something that really bothers me because I never know what to do with them.  I've been doing Project Life this year, and I happened to have these two extra photos so I used them in a separate layout for our family album.  I talk more about printing and planning my pages here so I don't have extra photos lying around.

In order to be more Earth friendly at home, here are a few tips.

✄Scrap Storage:  Who doesn't have a ton of paper scraps laying around?  I used to toss them, but then I came up with a storage solution for them.  I bought these plastic drawer units at Hobby Lobby.  They are 12x12 so they will fit the whole length of a 12x12 sheet of paper.  I organize each draw according to color.  It makes it really easy to find the right color I need.  And my boys know that for the most part they can use these papers to make their own crafts. (please excuse my ugly cabinet)

✄Composting:  My family and I finally got a composter this year.  We had talked about it for a few years and we finally decided to do it.  This is one of my favorite things.  It really helps cut down on the trash, and it is useful in the garden for soil.

✄Recycle:  We recycle in our household.  It is especially easy for us since the city we live in started a curbside recycling program.  We don't even have to sort it out.

✄Gardening:  We plant a garden every year.  I love it because it saves us money at the store.  The vegetables taste so much better.  I also started a herb garden this year.  It saves me quick little trips to the store because I forget to by fresh spices for dinner.  (I am forgetful...I once forgot to buy a chicken for roasting and didn't realize it until I was peeling potatoes for it.)  If I can forget the entire main course...what makes you think I would remember the side items, ha.

And now for the fun stuff.....The Prize....If you follow my blog, leave a comment below and let me know if you do.  If you don't, follow my blog or subscribe via email, please sign up and leave me a comment below.  Those who enter comments/subscribe will be entered to win this cute little Chipboard mini album from Maya Road to make your own.  International participants are welcome to enter if they are willing to pay for the extra international shipping.  ( I will pay domestic shipping.)

I will be starting A Week in the Life, tomorrow.  So, join me for that.  Now you are off to see, Stephanie here.

  1. I don't have a garden but would love to try and grow a herb garden out on the balcony - I never have fresh herbs in. Nice list - it's all about the small things isn't it.

Oh and my scheduler wasn't working either today - two posts as well!

  2. I also hate having extra photos so tend to only print what I need when I need them. Definitely saves on printing costs.

  4. Composting rocks :) We moved to a new city a couple of years ago that has composting bins along with the regular residential trash/recycling bins. It's amazing how much we end up composting!

  8. Great page layout. And good ideas too - we do okay on stuff inside the house, but composting is a great idea. Maybe I can get hubby to go for that.

  10. I now follow your blog. I love the idea of having the separate drawers for different colored scraps. My scraps are currently a mess and difficult to navigate.
